d a n a h b e l l a DanceWorks (dbDW) promotes a critical understanding and a rich appreciation for contemporary modern dance. To this end, their works explore the intersection and interplay of social constructs, movement theories and emerging technologies. This process of constant negotiation between “natural” and “synthetic” realms, gives birth to a strategic surrealism; a malleable spatial opening from which to better engage discourses of the body, performance, and emerging issues in visual culture.
dbDW has performed in venues throughout the country, including New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., San Francisco and has been invited to festivals showcasing dance: Yes Virginia Dance (Richmond, Virginia); Dance Sampler (Arlington, Virginia); the National Queer Arts Festival (San Francisco, California); the United States of Asian America Festival (San Francisco, California); Dance Forum (Kalamazoo, Michigan); LadyFest (Durham, North Carolina); Charlotte Dance Festival (Charlotte, NC); Monterey Dance Festival (Marina, California.); Dumbo Dance Festival and White Wave Dance Festival (New York City); SBaDaPT International Festival (Santa Barbara, CA); and ProDanza Italia (Italy).
We are very thankful to call Radford University our home and be associated with the Department of Dance.
